Going to digress away from Trin and try to start a discussion on the apparent SL takeover by the NRL. I think there’s a lot of speculation etc flying about, heard Brian Carney touch on it, then Matt Ellis also in the new Inside Wakefield programme. 


My brother in law was sending me X links to journalists etc saying the NRL want merging clubs ie Wakey/Cas. I just can’t see that happening. Does anyone know anything on this? 

interesting ... I was a wests fan before the merger with the tigers (who, as a fan I hated) I still dislike wests tigers for killing my team. It took me a long time and a move to the area to find and support the sharks... In 95 I was prepared to walk away from the game if the proposed merger with Cas and Fev happened... 


If Trinity merge it's no longer trinity, and from that day i will have no team

I don’t know what’s going on but if it’s what you say and they want to merge bitter rivals with partisan supporters who really don’t mix then they’re way off!


If they want one club cities in places like Wakefield, Hull & Wigan then they’re better off biting the bullet and cold heartedly selecting the club they want and leaving the other one out!


This sport has hamstrung itself for decades by taking the path of easy resistance and trying to please everyone. If it were Wakefield left out and we had to join a 2nd tier league then so be it, we’d be the best club outside their NRL Europe competition and along with a couple of others we’d make them regret it in the long run.

This is obviously pure speculation. 

That's just a rehash of the old mergers.
They haven't actually suggested that.

No he didn’t, Gareth Davies posted on twitter his ideal NRL Europe. This is what happens when gossip spreads without fact checking. 

Hence why I said pure speculation and hence why in my first post which I posted creating this topic asked does anyone actually know anything. How can I fact check something when there’s currently no facts about this topic. Did I say that the tweet was a fact?? Nope, I said I’d been sent it by my brother in law. It’s a Tweet from a commentator, not a statement from Peter V’landys. 

I also said I received it in a message obviously with no context, Poptart gave context to what the tweet actually is clearly and concisely without coming across as very condescending as you have. Nice one cheers. 

And another unsubstantiated rumour is that the aussies want the european league to go back and run through winter to enable full year tv and media coverage.

Heard Matty Johns speak about this last year on the ‘home run with Fletch and Joel’. Saying that the NRL would love us to go back to winter so that some of their players could come over like they did in years gone by for stints with our clubs, more money for them, better players for us. Obviously pure speculation

You have literally implied fact on every post you’ve made on this thread. Not a single thing has been made public or official yet - everything is pure gossip and hearsay.

Fourth-hand chat is not a discussion point.

So paraphrasing what Matty Johns has said on a podcast about this topic whilst saying it’s purely speculation is also implying it’s a fact. Ok. I’m sorry I offended you by gossiping and stating false facts about this subject….. on a RL discussion forum.
